There is a saying that justice delayed is justice denied but the acquittal of the accused in the Malegaon blast has raised eyebrows, inevitably eroding public confidence in the judiciary . The real blame lies in the prosecution's lethargic attitude and lack of seriousness in the case. It is hardly a coincidence that the acquittal came after the Union Home Minister's statement in Parliament that "No Hindu can ever be a terrorist". Unless the Maharashtra government decides to appeal, justice for the victims' families may remain a mirage. The Court stated that there wasn't enough evidence and that investigation had several flaws . This points to the urgent need for air tight investigation and swift justice and the Court had reaffirmed the principle that no person can be held guilty until conclusively proven so. It is better for a guilty person to go free due to lack of evidence than a innocent person to be wrongfully punished which causes a lot of depression in the family.
