At many places in Benaulim, one sees transformer enclosures being used as billboards with plastic, flex, cloth, PVC and paper banners being stuck all over the chain-link fence. These materials are highly flammable, and in case of sparking in the transformer, a fire would most definitely result. Moreover, these units are in close proximity to buildings and power/internet cables, and a fire will wreak massive havoc. The Goa Electricity Department assets all seem like 'baap ka maal' to be misused at will by errant parties. Similar is the case with internet cables on electricity poles.
The government should deal with a heavy hand against such advertising instead of merely issuing ineffectual warnings from time to time.
