Some press headlines have apparently inaccurately reported that Indian Medical Association is protesting against Ayurvedic doctors performing surgeries.
This is a misunderstanding of the issues. The fact is that the IMA, representing lakhs of allopathic doctors is opposed to the proposed unscientific illogical amalgamation and mixing of the allopathic system of medicine with the indigenous systems of medicine.
If indeed there exist the disciplines of surgery, anaesthesia, and infection control in Ayurveda or other systems of medicine,
and there are people who would opt for the Ayurvedic surgeries, they have a right to, and are welcome to make that choice.
To put the issue in the right perspective, what the IMA and allopathic doctors do not approve of, and agree with, is the unscientific illogical mixing of different systems of medicine, perhaps driven by the vested interest of a handful of persons, who wish to pursue and push their own agenda.
Can we lose sight of the fact that, in the most recent times when minister for ayush and many others of this line of thinking, was affected by Covid, he and many others like him did not rush to the Ayurved shalayas, but instead rushed to the AIIMS and other leading allopathic hospitals to save their lives.
