The potholed roads in Panaji town and surroundings were tarred overnight. The coming of the first citizen of India brought relief to the tyres and shock absorbers of vehicles. These auto parts bear the brunt of the lackadaisical approach of the authorities. Citizens have highlighted the problem of bad roads in the newspapers but such requests fell on deaf ears. But the authorities are well aware of the fact that it is “roads” that the VIPs will have his first impression of, after travelling through the clouds. As the old adage goes “The first impression is the last impression”, authorities buckled their sleeves and swung into action for urgent road repairs. It would have been to our surprise if the authorities had regularly maintained the health of the roads. I hope such VIPs keep visiting our state frequently.
