This refers to 'Sawant slams teacher quality in unaided primary schools' (TGE - September 6, 2025). Yet another Teachers’ Day has passed us by with teachers felicitated, awards presented, praised to the highest heavens, and beautiful WhatsApp messages circulated. All very fine! Everybody feels good!
Education is a very important part of life. We look at education from literacy angles, qualifications, and how learned one is. Yes, primary schools provide basic education; it is in fact the foundation for classes ahead and the future itself. Sadly though, primary education is a challenge with the fees so high in unaided private schools.
Even while we celebrate Teachers’ Day, we need to appreciate the parents, especially the mother, who are our first teachers even before we step into school. At the end of the day, our parents as teachers are the backbone of society!
