Driving is a responsibility, and it is important to obey all traffic rules while driving. Drunken driving needs to be avoided at all costs. This is necessary in order to make sure that any rash decisions or faulty behaviour do not cause grave accidents that can put lives in danger. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a grave concern in India. As per Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act 2019, it is illegal to drive when one is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Continuing the drive against people driving under the influence of alcohol, Ponda police have reportedly arrested four persons in the town. Goa is a place where liquor flows freely and attracts hordes of tourists. Hence drunken driving is an issue which needs to be tackled with a firm hand by the concerned authorities. Breath-analyzer tests need to be carried out regularly especially during the night hours. Suspension of the driving license for a predetermined period needs to be the punishment for the first violation and the period of suspension of the license increased for every subsequent violation. The licenses of habitual violators need to be suspended permanently.
