President of India Ram Nath Kovind last month and now Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu is on a week-long sojourn in a very tolerant Goa despite the public having to endure unbearable and annoying traffic snarl-ups and diversions.
Both statesmen have come at a time when they do not have their full time Governor in place to meet and greet them and to discuss and update them on plans for restoring good Governance to Goa. Would their time not have been better spent treating Goa with the respect it deserves by appointing a full time Governor?
Surprisingly, neither of the two cared to give an explanation for the unacceptable delay in appointing the much needed Governor for Goa which is currently enveloped with so many crucial issues. The deteriorating law and order is a matter of concern while people of the State and the youth in particular are agitating all over against projects that are not in the interest of the State and our environment.
Unfortunately, our former Governor Satya Pal Malik was suddenly and quickly shoved away from Goa to Meghalaya for being honest, very proactive and extremely outspoken who refused to be a rubber stamp. He behaved impeccably and knowledgeably in the best interests of our people and the State.
The need for a well qualified caring Governor with impeccable leadership qualities has never been greater especially at a time when we have a Government in power but not in control, besieged with so many issues and not able to see the wood from the trees. People are desperate for leadership and to see the light at the end of a long dark tunnel.
