The rising incidents of plastic and other trash along the Goan coastline is giving hard times to the fishermen in the State. The fisherfolk say plastic waste and fish land in equal measure in their nets and they have to spend extra time in segregating the trash from their prized catch. According to the fishing community they have been catching fish since ages but never seen plastic waste being netted. It has been a gradual rise in the last 10 years or so.
The trash in the sea has been increasing by the year, especially during the monsoon. This year, the plastic trash levels are higher than the last year. The point also to be noted is that, once segregated, the netted trash is just left on the beaches whic is again washed back into the sea along with the tides.
Hence, it becomes the duty of every Goan not to throw plastic on beaches and in water bodies too. .
