Honouring teachers: Food for thought

We have just finished celebrating ‘Teachers’ Day’ on September 5 -- the day on which students in our country honour their teachers for the good work they have been carrying out, moulding characters and shaping futures. 

Thanks to our late eminent and erudite president Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who made possible this day, by dedicating his birthday as a tribute to all the teachers. 

In this connection it would be interesting to note what the Greek philosopher Aristotle had to say about teachers: “Teachers who educate children deserve more honour than parents who merely give them birth. While the latter provides mere life, the former ensures a good life”. 

I wonder how many of us would concur with such a view.

Age cannot be a deterrent in church

Much to the delight of parishioners, some churches have opened for Eucharistic celebrations in Goa and other places. Social distancing, sanitisers, thermal thermometers and all SOPs are observed.Churches have adopted different methods of selecting the people who are invited to attend.
