Names matter a lot just like people judge an idea, a company or whatever by the name. Now coming to naming of the new airport one should always take into consideration the race and culture of its people inhabiting the land. Since the airport belongs to the whole of Goa a popular mandate needs to be ascertained by all and not pertaining to the localised area. Goa having its unique identity with a colonial past one has to dabble with contentious issues palatable to all races and cultures. A 50-50 ratio taking into consideration the middle path of all communities belonging to both the State districts and who have a stake in the naming of the new airport. Racial misconceptions are already beginning to creep in from all communities pertaining to religious fervours in various races and parties or religions for the naming of the Mopa airport. A consensus of all stakeholders has to be arrived at with no ill feelings from all sides of the spectrum in naming of airport.
