With reference to the news report “Chicken dearer and beyond reach of common man” (The Goan Everyday March 01, 2022). One kilogram of chicken costs Rs 175. How can a poor man have chicken biryani? Forget chicken kebabs. Chicken is rich man’s food. Petrol is rich man’s fuel. How can a poor man live? How can a poor man survive?
These are important questions. Is there no country for a poor man? The day is not far when poor man will be eating raw onion with bread or roti for his survival.
He cannot afford petrol. Going around on a vehicle is ruled out. Now even chicken curry is ruled out of his menu. Cucumber and tomatoes. Onions and bread. No chicken. No mutton. Life was tough. Now it got even tougher. Tell me after a long day’s hard work in sweltering heat and dust if a poor man cannot sit down with a glass of rejuvenating drink and a plate of chicken biryani to unwind, what will motivate him to give his best? There cannot be a bigger sin than being poor. The world belongs to the rich. The poor have no choice. Why chicken? You too chicken.
