The Goa Tourism Department in its latest attempt to improve tourism in the State declared several activities as a nuisance, with one of those activities including the prohibition of cooking in tourist places. Many domestic tourists that travel by vehicle tend to carry cylinders and stoves with them for the purpose of cooking and are often found littering the places around them. On the other hand, Goans who enjoy a good barbeque or families that cook during picnics at beaches or springs may not be able to do so in the future. Or maybe they could.
Boards warning people about the punishments for littering have been erected across Goa but nothing has really stopped them from doing so. Meanwhile, some people throw garbage at that very spot, mocking authorities and highlighting the lax attitude of the government towards these problems. The government needs to enforce these orders for a sustained period of time until it becomes the norm while tourists need to be made aware of such laws/orders at points of entry to the State.
