This is with reference to the news report ‘K. A renovation work violated tender. H. C. (TGE, Sept 13). In another blow to the Goa govt, the High Court of Bombay at Goa, while hearing a PIL, has apparently unearthed another fraud, by observing that the repair work contract of the iconic Kala Academy for a whopping Rs 40 crore to a private contractor was carried out without following the mandatory tendering process by the government.
This has resulted in shoddy work and defects, leading to cracks in the beams and columns, leakages, seepage, falling false ceilings, etc., which were overlooked by the supervisory staff of the PWD. The question then is why was the Goa government silent all this while and why no action was taken to punish those responsible, even after reports by the appointed Task Force also confirmed the same defects.
