The hidden risk of outside labourers


The recent Mapusa heist highlights a disturbing trend. The calculated and unhurried manner in which the gang operated suggests they had prior knowledge of the place, people, their wealth and security. This raises concerns about the contractors and labourers we hire for work in our homes.

Politicians, activists, and locals often complain about the reliance on outside labourers to save costs, but we also take a significant risk by doing so. We increase the probability of making our homes and family life vulnerable to crimes. 

Individual locals and the government share responsibility for this issue, as most migrant workers are employed in infrastructure projects. 

Rather than blaming law enforcement every time, can we take adequate steps to control the migrant flow into the state? Specifically, regulating groups of more than 10 men per batch could be a starting point.
