It is said that in the West, people spend more on pet food than on baby food. These pets are in homes, not to be found on the streets, as in India. Controlling the population of stray dogs is a herculean task. It is expensive and more of a losing battle...the evidence is to be seen on our streets in Goa. Many people suffer dog bites and some even succumb to rabies. But good hearted dog lovers continue to feed dogs without doing anything to control their population. Large packs of hungry and sometimes aggressive dogs roaming the streets are a threat to the people. I believe that the number of ardent dog lovers is large and outnumber the number of strays in any given area. That being the case each one of such ardent dog lovers should adopt a stray or take complete charge of one dog. By taking charge I mean registering and collaring the stray, getting it sterilized and vaccinated, maintaining a health card, in addition to providing it with food.
