This is with reference to the news report, "After 43 years wait, Pakistan born Shane Pereira gets Indian citizenship (TGE, Dec 11). It was heartening to read how after a patient wait of 43 years, Pakistan-born Goan Shane Pereira succeeded in getting Indian citizenship under the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA). Incidentally Pereira is the second Pakistani Goan to get Indian citizenship through CAA. All credit therefore goes to the Indian govt for the CAA which is proving to be a boon to many others in Pakistan who are unhappy and are eager to get Indian citizenship. On the flip side and in sharp contrast, there are reports that thousands of Goans have applied for Portuguese citizenship and are eagerly awaiting their turn. What an irony and twist of fate, to say the least.
