On Tuesday a 12-year-old student reportedly opened fire at a secondary school in Southern Finland, killing one and seriously injuring two other students. It must be said that campus violence is quite common in western countries, especially in the US.
However now such acts of violence appear to have entered school campuses in Goa as well. On Wednesday the Cujira education complex in Bambolim saw a tense situation as arguments between two groups snowballed into a fight.
This led to injuries to three students and arrest of three youngsters on charges of attempt to murder. It is learnt that one of the accused was brandishing a knife which was captured on the mobile by a passerby.
The video was circulated widely on social media prompting an FIR to be filed. Violence in school campuses, which are seats or learning, need to be dealt with a firm hand by the law-keepers. Police presence seems necessary near school and college campuses.
This will act as a deterrence to such acts of violence which can harm other students. The police need to complete the investigation in the present case and punish the accused as per law. Visitors should be allowed to enter school campuses only after proper verification.
