Through the letters to the editor in your paper, I wish to acknowledge and celebrate a remarkable milestone in the history of Goa’s cultural heritage ” 132 years of tiatr. Tiatr has continued to captivate audiences since its inception in 1892. It was on April 17, 1892 that the first tiatr titled "Italian Bhurgo" was performed in Bombay, marking the birth of a powerful art form that would go on to become the voice of the Goan people. Over the decades, tiatr has evolved into much more than just stage entertainment. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Konkani stage performers ” comedians, actresses, actors, writers, musicians, and directors, the tiatr stage has remained alive and relevant, resonating with every generation. Their commitment and talent have brought us political satire, emotional dramas, and comedy songs that continue to win the hearts of Goans across the world. We also express heartfelt gratitude to the people of Goa who have taken time out of their lives to attend and support tiatr performances. The role of the Tiatr Academy of Goa must also be acknowledged for providing a structured platform to nurture and sustain this art form. As we celebrate this historic milestone, let us also remember with respect all the great stage performers who are no longer with us. Finally, a humble appeal to the younger generation: Embrace this rich tradition, take it forward, and continue to honour the Konkani language and Goan identity through tiatr.
