CEO needs to undertake crucial electoral reforms

The Election Commission must be complimented for organizing contests to create awareness among the electorate with regard to the sacred duty and responsibility of voting, in the forthcoming elections in Goa. It is good to note that students are being encouraged to participate in this campaign, to write letters to the CEO on the Theme, "My Vote, My Right", "Our Vote, Our Future". Here is an opportunity for youngsters to speak their mind and we expect them to put forward their thoughts candidly and fearlessly. However, while writing in to the CEO, they would do well to keep in mind the mockery that our democracy is being reduced to, on account of mass scale defections by politicians after getting elected on a particular party ticket. They need to strongly urge the CEO to undertake strict electoral reforms like, execution of a bond at the time of filing nominations in order to ensure that the elected candidates do not defect to another party during the term of the House. This will prevent the elections from becoming a big farce in the world's largest democracy. The future of our democracy is at stake!
