This is with reference to the article, "Why we celebrate National Girl Child's Day - The Goan Everyday January 24, 2023." That was an informative piece on the Girl Child's Day celebrated on the January 24 every year. Several reasons have been cited for celebrating the Girl Child's Day, and all of them valid reasons, mainly to create awareness about the discrimination and the violence the girl children are subjected to in society. And so once again this year, we celebrate the Girl Child's Day with great enthusiasm. However, at the end of the day, we find that the situation on the ground remains unchanged. People still prefer the male child over the girl child. Girls and women continue to be molested, they continue to get raped, they continue to be harassed in our country. Unless and until we change mindset of people in society, nothing would seem to change. Men should be taught to control their carnal desires. Illiteracy may also be a contributing factor it would seem but then we find even the 'educated' illiterates contributing to this sickening scenario. Perhaps, counselling from a young age could help.
