Colva real estate projects not registered with RERA?

RERA stands for Real Estate Regulatory Authority, and GOA RERA was established in 2017, with its online platform launched in January 2018. RERA aims to tackle issues in the real estate sector, such as project delays, unfair practices by developers, and lack of transparency. In Goa, many developers engage in unfair practices and lack transparency, leading to environmental violations. While the RERA website outlines policies to address these concerns, enforcement and monitoring are inadequate. Consequently, many land and project developers continue their malpractices.

For instance, in my village of Colva, all commercial and residential real estate projects must register under the Act, except for certain small developments. However, when checking the RERA Goa website for Colva, there are no listed projects, despite numerous developments occurring. This lack of registration fosters more malpractices and threatens local resources.

Registered projects should provide details online, including sanctioned plans and completion schedules. However, Colva activists have identified severe lapses in several projects after lengthy investigations. Since these projects are not registered on the RERA website, they raise suspicions of malpractice. I urge RERA authorities to mandate that all projects, including those in Colva, be registered on the RERA Goa site for greater transparency.

Only one question comes to my mind: does our beautiful Goa really belong to us Goans?
