Through the columns of your newspaper, I wish to highlight a growing concern among Goans. Once known for peace, safety and its unique culture, Goa is slowly losing its old charm. In recent times, there has been a rise in outsiders entering the state. Some are seen going from house to house, claiming to be salesmen or surveyors. Their activities raise suspicion, and many fear they may be collecting sensitive information or watching households for the wrong reasons. What is worrying is that some of these people have no valid purpose or identification. Their increasing presence in villages is causing unease, especially among the elderly and women who are often alone at home during the day.
Goans are not against anyone earning a living or visiting the state respectfully, but the authorities must act to verify the identities and activities of such individuals. Goa cannot afford to turn into a “beggars’ city” or become a soft target for anti-social elements. I urge the government and police to step up vigilance, check the background of such people, and spread awareness among residents to remain alert. Goa must remain safe and secure for its citizens.
