A large amount of cash was reportedly found at the official residence of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma after a fire at his bungalow on March 14, 2025. The money was later found burnt. This incident has raised serious concerns within the judicial system.
Many Goans may now wonder whether some High Court Judges could be favouring certain well-funded real estate companies and the Goa government, allowing projects that harm Goa’s hills, fields, water bodies, and environment.
I have noticed several cases in the High Court where, in my view, valid arguments and evidence presented by activists were not given much attention. The final orders in these matters often seemed to support the real estate company involved, and the Goa government appeared to provide strong support through documents and reasoning. This is in contrast to the slow response when ordinary citizens raise environmental complaints.
