Forests are National Assets...- Goan Everyday - April 20, 2024. The Supreme Court has rightly stated that Forests are our National Assets. It follows, therefore, that Forests being National Assets, must be protected at all costs. But, what is the sad, ground reality not just in Goa but all across the country today? It is there for all to see.
Large parts of the country are presently in the grip of a severe heatwave. But, in the meanwhile, there was a news report this morning, that 55 full-grown trees along a highway in Mumbai have been allegedly killed by advertisers and builders. And, then we ask, why the heatwave, why erratic, unseasonal rains, why climate change? Why? Why? Why?
Depletion and disappearance of forests would ultimately lead to a massive extinction of organisms, observed the court. We shall soon be staring at the extinction of life itself from the face of this Earth. Where are we heading, then? Look no further than your immediate surroundings!
