The electorate normally elects representatives either as independents or as members affiliated to political parties. But of late every elected member wants to be with the ruling side and as such don’t mind getting there by hook or by crook.
Political parties hungry for power also play their part and welcome those who are ready to switch sides.
We have seen this political ‘circus’ time and again in our country and in our own Goa. The present ‘circus’ is going on in West Bengal where several of the Trinamool Congress leaders are quitting and joining the BJP ahead of the polls.
We also witnessed the same ‘circus’ here in Goa when Congress and MGP MLAs switched sides and joined the BJP.
To stop this ‘circus’ a strong legislation should be brought in to ensure sanctity of the electoral process. All MLAs who resign after being elected, should be barred from contesting for two terms. They should also not be allowed to hold any government post for 10 years.
This is the only way out to teach greedy politicians a lesson.
