Democracy in serious decline at our peril

Today the BJP with its Hindutva ideology, allies, and others who bring it to absolute power through mass defections, has brought our democracy into serious decline. There is no level playing field with the ruling party led by the PM of India using every possible lever of power to operate formidably right from the Election Commission, practically free of model code of conduct restrictions, to enforcement agencies and the power of the central government that now is in total control of northern, eastern and western states while making serious inroads in the south. Although elections are held and there is great jubilation in the majority of “we the people” in development and material progress, open your eyes and expose your minds to the state of the world today. Notice that  a person like Trump was elected US president who disregards all international and statutory laws with impunity, whilst the whole world watches and suffers? No one must have absolute power which democracy ensures. Goa has been a place where communal harmony has held so far. We the people must not only encourage Goan harmony but also emulate and protect minorities.
