Reading this news item about the hardships, the sufferings faced by the farmers and the people of the Devondem-Seraulim-Mungul-Benaulim belt on account of stagnant water in their fields was disturbing. Whatever the reason, and whether it is in Goa or other locations, whether it is on account of some infrastructure project, etc., we need to think of food in the future.
One shudders to think what it would be like when farming comes to an end. There may not be food on our table in the future. The authorities must undertake a detailed study, taking ground realities into account before embarking on any infrastructure projects. There are bound to be implications when you play with nature.
