With the local administration banning entry of public in most of the exotic waterfalls in Canacona, picnickers have discovered lesser known streams.
However, it has been observed that after they leave these places, they carelessly leave the trash behind, thereby polluting otherwise serene countryside.
The picnickers are responsible for leaving their waste which includes empty bottles, wrappers, plastic water bottles, plastic plates and bags.
Till now we have cleared roadsides, markets and beaches of the filth. It is now a new and immense challenge to free hills and rivers and streams from garbage.
Do not litter near a water bodies, instead plant a tree in catchment areas of rivers and also on banks.
Trees not only check soil erosion but also retain soil moisture and feed rivers to keep them flowing. Trees are also helpful. Not only do they look beautiful when they grow, but they also help in protecting the water body from pollutants.
Also stop chemical pollution. If you notice someone throwing chemicals into the river or lake, or hear about such an incident inform your local authorities about the matter.
