Don’t ignore report of Finance Panel


The Finance Panel has submitted its report to the Chief Minister, potentially containing many recommendations for the government. However, is it sufficient to merely present the report to the CM? 

One major issue highlighted is water deficiency and the decline of rural farming. Additionally, the TCP ministry has been issuing permissions for constructions and land conversions. 

Another crucial point is the need to empower local self-governing bodies, a promise long held by the government. Without this empowerment, elected representatives remain limited to legislative roles. There is a concern that this report might be ignored, as seen with how GPDP and VDC finances are managed by the BDOs and higher authorities.

Goans returning to Goa are fed up with harassment by customs officials over gold ornaments. Even passengers using the Green channel face trouble if they’re wearing a single gold chain or ring. Customs officials ask numerous questions, demand receipts, and if the receipt is missing, the harassment starts until a bribe is paid or “arrangements” are made. People go abroad to work hard for their families, and when they return home after years, they may bring gold ornaments…
