I am pretty sure that our Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is pursuing the matter regarding dual citizenship to Goans with the Government of India even though the Centre is against the idea of dual citizenship but since Goa was a colony of Portuguese for over 400 years, Goans got the opportunity of obtaining Portuguese passport. The Portuguese passport has become a gateway to Europe for getting job opportunities and giving sustenance to their families. There are so many talented Goans employed in Europe as our government could not give gainful employment and salary to meet their ends working in Goa. The government has a strong case for Goans to get dual citizenship because Puducherry previously Pondicherry residents have been given dual citizenship when it was also a colony of French. Goa needs to put up the issue vigorously with BJP government at the Centre and fast track it to a logical conclusion by pursuing the matter with the Prime Minister to consider the dual citizenship in the interest of Goa and Goans. Hope that Goans are allowed to get dual citizenship befoe this year's general elections.
