Dudhsagar waterfall to remain open despite orange alert in Goa - Goan Everyday - June 8, 2024. The monsoon seems to have set in Goa and now seems to be setting in Mumbai as well. The weather bureau has been issuing weather alerts from time to time in the interest of public safety - Orange alert, yellow alert, whatever.
According to the news report, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert predicting heavy rainfall. However, the office of the Deputy Conservator of Forests Wildlife and Ecotourism (North) Division seems to differ and has decided to keep the Dudhsagar waterfall, which turns into a danger zone during monsoon, open until the monsoon actually sets in.
Why such a discrepancy? This is certainly confusing to the public at large. Whom should they trust, the weather bureau or the forest office? At the end of the day, it is the safety of the public at stake. Who would own up responsibility in the event of any unfortunate incidents occurring at the waterfall?
