Of late Goa has been witnessing a flurry of political activities. With parties from other states making their presence felt in the state. Several party leaders have changed their political colors overnight. These outside parties are probably trying Goa as a testing ground as they prepare themselves for the elections at the centre.
Never in the past elections have seen so many freebies being promised ranging from free electricity, free water and jobs running in thousands. However, how all these promises will be kept remains a mystery. By now, the Goan electorate hopefully has become smarter and can see through these promises which at times seem impossible to fulfill. Besides this, various parties could be distributing free ration, alcoholic drinks, and money to the gullible voters.
2022 elections will be a game changer in more ways than one. It will decide in which way the state will be heading in the next 25 years. The deciding factor could be the migrant vote. Given the number of migrants with voting rights in Goa, besides their home state, they could decide which party will be victorious.
It is a pity that though citizens exercise their franchise they could have little say on the government formation given the party hopping that takes place after elections.
