Many Goa Government employees were aggrieved at the Goa government decision to prematurely retire them at 58 years as against their counterparts who were given the benefit of retirement at 60 years. The affected employees not only lost employment for two years but also consequently got lower pension. The Association of retired Goa government employees deserve appreciation for taking up their cause through a writ petition and getting a favourable judgement from the High Court of Bombay at Goa recently, although the benefit is restricted to compensation in pensionary benefits only.
The Association is now collecting information from its affected members in order to send it to the Goa government for sanctioning the benefit of increase in pension recomputed on the basis of two notional increments in pay. But what about the rest of the lot of prematurely retired government employees who missed to be members of the Association but who are similarly situated and affected? As one category of prematurely retired employees, they are equally aggrieved by the same government decision and hence merit the same relief.
The Goa government should therefore collect their information too which is available with its respective government offices who have the service records and extend the same benefit to all in the interest of fair and impartial treatment.
