It is learnt that Goa has been conferred the prestigious ‘Best Wedding Destination in India’ award at the ‘Wow Awards Middle East 2024’, held in Dubai, UAE. Winning the award highlights Goa’s position as a premier destination for weddings and luxury celebrations. The state provides an unparalleled experience of tradition and modernity amidst stunning landscapes and beaches, making it a perfect choice for celebrations and destination weddings. The luxurious resorts also provide world-class amenities.
The Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, has said that the continuous efforts of the department have confirmed Goa’s position as a global hub for destination weddings and that it will serve as motivation to further enhance the tourism infrastructure to meet international standards.
This all seems rosy and promising; however, it must be said that the road infrastructure in the state leaves a lot to be desired. Promotion of tourism should also provide proper roads for the visitors. The wedding entourage will not arrive at the resort or beach for the wedding reception by helicopter. They have to drive along the road.
For a wedding entourage, the roads leading to the world-class wedding destination unfortunately could be full of potholes and provide for a bumpy drive. Proper roads need to be a part of the tourism plan. For this to happen, the tourism department and the Public Works Department need to work in tandem. The tourism sector in the state needs to develop in all aspects, including proper road infrastructure.
