Gov must assert himself against faulty govt plans

Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai has started touring Goa constituency wise. He has publicly acknowledged that he is just a nominal head with no powers, so why this futile exercise further burdening the taxpayers. Does he realize that on the days he is touring a constituency the people are grossly inconvenienced as all officers in that area are merrily absent in their respective offices whilst hovering along with the Governor’s entourage?

It is expected that the Governor will assert himself firmly against any misconceived plans of the government. Its time he realizes that it is pointless just sermonizing as he must crack the whip and protect the interests of Goa and Goans at all times. That is the least that is expected from the Governor of the day who should never act as a rubber stamp by signing on the dotted line without asking any questions. Sadly Governor Pillai has been abdicating his constitutional role of being a watchdog and correcting the government when it goes wrong. In over a year at the Raj Bhavan in Goa, Governor Pillai has not raised queries on a single wrong doing or faulty proposals of this government.
