Economics says that consumer is king, he is sovereign. But what is the reality? In my opinion and as per my observation king has become the slave in the market. For this I will give a simple example. Presently a exhibition by name Goa Consumer Exhibition is going on in my village near government college. I visited this exhibition. Here I noticed several irregularities. The date of packing and expiry date are not mentioned on most of items for sale. Maximum retail price which is most important is missing on most items. In case of food items the contents are not mentioned on the packing. All these things are mandatory as per Consumer Protection Act. But this exhibition is violating these important provisions of the act. I strongly appeal to the Department of Consumer Affairs of Goa government to initiate strong action against the organisers of this exhibition in order to stop the exploitation of the consumers.
