The Directorate of Art and Culture will be organizing the state-level crib competition from December 26 to 31. The crib competition will reportedly be organized in two categories, namely institutions, which include clubs, parishes or by group of people and individuals and or households. It is pertinent to note that while in the past parishes across the state used to organize carol singing competitions besides star and crib competitions, now most of the churches have a presentation instead of a competition. It must be said that a competition is not in keeping with the teaching of the Bible. The Bible says “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.” (Galatians 6: 4). It must be said that a competition could lead to envy, rivalry and considering oneself as a more capable person than others. Hence a competition during the Christmas season seems out of place and needs to be done away with and instead have a presentation where there are no winners and losers.
