Over 40 per cent of Goa’s cabinet ministers faced defeat in the recently concluded assembly polls including both deputy CMs who had opportunistically defected to the saffron party from other outfits in 2019. Three other ministers faced the wrath of the people and were sent packing by the janta due to defection, anti-incumbency, charges of corruption and being involved in sex scandal. Those who went against the mandate of the people by hopping over to the ruling party after being elected on a lesser party’s ticket during the last polls were shown the door by an enlightened electorate. A particular minister, who was accused of accepting money for providing government jobs, was denied the ticket by his own party and had to eat humble pie at the hands of a political novice even though he contested as an independent. Now that the smoke has settled it would take for a humongous balancing act by the CM designate to accommodate all the heavyweights who won, including the ones who left the party pre-elections, almost all are clamouring for a cabinet berth now. Hope this time around our elected representatives have learnt their lessons and would work diligently for the welfare of the citizens instead of blindly chasing power and pelf. Yeh public hai, sub jaanti hai.
