It is heartbreaking to see the inhumane war inflicted by Israel on Gaza. Their claims of defending their nation, no longer hold water. It is plain and simple genocide, through indiscriminate killing, forced starvation and destruction of medical facilities. Hamas gave them an opportunity and Israel seized it, to execute their agenda. There have been repeated reports of Israeli army firing on and killing, helpless, civilians flocking to designated aid centres, desperate to get some food for their starving families. After having killed 55,000 people and injuring 127,000 people, do the Israelis believe that they will live peacefully, after having traumatised a generation. What is even more tragic is that the whole world including “the largest democracy”, is complicit in this genocide.
We would do well to remember Pastor Niemoller’s poem. “ First they came for the communists, And I did not speak, because I am not a communist … Then they came for me, but there was no one left to speak for me.
