Judicial intervention needed in fake cases

The Supreme Court of India recently warned the Uttar Pradesh DGP of severe punitive action over police misconduct, where civil disputes were being converted into criminal cases to harass individuals.

Similar concerns arise in Goa, where allegations include multiple instances of misconduct, such as the Assonora demolition involving bouncers, contempt of court orders on sound pollution along the northern coastal belt, assaults at Gram Sabhas, selective FIR filing, illegal sand mining, inaction on corruption cases filed by citizens, and false cases against activists opposing environmental destruction.

While some honest officers exist, evidence suggests they are often restrained by senior officials, allegedly under the influence of political leaders, including ministers and MLAs.

Can courts, such as the High Court or Supreme Court, take suo motu action based on media reports and documented facts? It appears law and order in Goa is compromised, leaving judicial intervention as the only hope to restore accountability.
