The Goa Legislative Assembly has reportedly resolved to ask the central government to withdraw consent to the ‘Detail Project Report’ (DPR) given to the Karnataka government on the Kalasa-Bandhura canal project.
It is learnt Karnataka is going ahead with its plans to divert Mhadei water as early as possible. Hence, in whatever way the Goa government has proposed to counter this move by Karnataka, time is very much of essence. Goa cannot waste much time in deciding how to oppose the decision of the neighbouring state with respect to diverting the water. It is pertinent to note that during the Assembly session the opposition was vociferous in demanding a time-frame within which the Centre would withdraw the DPR. However, the government was non committal on this aspect. The matter could be postponed till the Karnataka assembly polls are completed. Goa cannot afford to wait for such a long time for a decisive action in its favour.
