More changes needed in the Indian Stamp duty

On 17.1.2023 the Goa government introduced the Indian Stamp (Goa Amendment) Bill 2023. This bill permits brothers-in-law (BILs) and sisters-in-law (SILs) to be included while executing gift deeds grants. The prescribed stamp duty will be Rs 5,000 which is currently applicable if the deed is made favouring father, mother, brother, sister, wife, husband, son, daughter, grandson and granddaughter. One wonders if such matters are more important than attending to other burning issues in the State. By the way, the Bill could have included two important members of a family i.e., fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law for without them there would be no wife, husband, BILs and SILs to whom the deed grants could be executed.
