I understand that the Goa Government is restricting non-Goans from changing their names to Goan-sounding ones. However, it seems that some people may have found ways around this rule. I recently came across a notice in a local daily about a name change done through a notary in Dharwad.
It raises concern that such name changes might be used to claim people’s properties or other assets illegally. I urge the Goa Government to investigate these out-of-state name changes and their possible link to unlawful activities in Goa.
