The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court has issued show cause notices to five parties with the most complaints about noise violations in the Anjuna/Vagator coastal area over the past two months. The court has also instructed the Pollution Control Board to strictly monitor these activities going forward.
Additionally, the court has ordered, at the request of the Advocate General of Goa and others, the creation of contact numbers for reporting noise pollution complaints. If a violation is reported, the public can call these numbers, and if no action is taken, the SDPO will investigate and take immediate action, as stated by Advocate General Devidas Pangam.
However, I believe that noise pollution will continue despite these High Court orders, as the State government seems determined to support club owners who play loud music after 10 pm, disrupting the peace and sleep of locals in Anjuna and Vagator. This disturbance, under the guise of promoting tourism and generating revenue for Goa, will likely persist in all coastal areas, with the full backing of the State government and the police, regardless of public opinion.
