After the stampede incident at famous Shirgao Lairai Zatra now the question is who is responsible for the same. The government announced the zatra as state festival but present committee opposed the same and did not accept the same. The past president is of opinion that the committee never took into confidence the previous committee in any decision nor called for meetings. He is firm that present committee and president of temple is responsible for stampede on early morning of May 3 which led to loss of lives and injury to many due to lack of planning and crowd management, without barricades in place and allowing shops on roadside which is narrow. On the day of zatra dhonds in thousands walk towards homkund after dip in lake and walk on burning coal. However as per previous president, the mahajans and dhonds were against the barricade system and removed when it was placed inside temple for smooth flow of crowd. It is learnt that in the future only dhonds will be allowed on the day of zatra. People will be allowed once the walk on homkund is over in the morning so as to avoid untoward incidents.
