Modi continues to make communally sensitive and inflammatory statements against the Congress and the INDI alliance by saying at different times at election campaign venues that 'they will demolish the newly built Ram temple in Ayodhya' and 'put the 'Babri lock' on it.' That is in case, they win. These are clear statements to incite and provoke the Hindu population to react particularly when there is no evidence to support such claims. The EC should take action against this on a suo moto basis. Moreover Modi also makes derogatory statements like the Opposition has Maoist thinking. These are considered aspersions and are best avoided. But who will bell the cat? That is, tell Modi or admonish him. The EC has become a toothless and emasculated body and is employing double standards. With smaller leaders they are serving show-cause notices for infarctions of the MCC but against senior leaders like Modi & Rahul Gandhi instead of pulling the offenders, the EC is referring the incidents to the respective party leaders to take action. This is deft sidestepping to avoid getting into controversies by the EC.
