In the death of Pope Francis, not only has the Church, but also the world lost a great leader. Leadership for Pope Francis was all about service to the poor, the downtrodden and the marginalised of society. By choosing the name Francis, after St Francis of Assisi , Pope Francis revealed his intentions of promoting humility , simplicity, and service to the poor, as well as of re-building the church. As a shepherd who lived with the smell of his sheep, Pope Francis also urged his pastors to do likewise , bearing in mind that in the world " greatness is determined by the number of people who serve you, but in God's kingdom, greatness is determined by how many people you serve". In short, Pope Francis set us a new model of leadership -- leading by example.
