The Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar accusing Minister Govind Gaude for misappropriation of funds and alleged scam in Art and Culture department is unfortunate. The minister allegedly sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs 26 lakh for events that were never held in his constituency. Already the same Minister has been under the scanner for allegedly overspending on the renovation of Kala Academy, an iconic art and cultural space in Goa’s capital Panaji that continues to be beset by complaints of low-quality work. There should be a probe into the alleged siphoning of funds belonging to the Art and Culture department. This collectively highlight the critical need for accountable governance, adherence to financial guidelines, and the implementation of robust oversight mechanisms to safeguard funds and ensure the effective execution of various government initiatives. People of the state are unhappy with the policies and programmes of the current government. They are misusing resources and betraying public trust.
