Public health crisis exposes systemic failures


A serious health scare has hit the Prabhu Violetta 200-apartment complex in Dabolim, where 149 cases of diarrhea were reported. Many victims have reported vomiting, dehydration, and severe stomach cramps, raising urgent concerns about water safety.

While the Goa government has moved into action mode, key questions remain. Why has the response been reactive rather than preventive, despite years of complaints about contaminated borewells, groundwater, and tanker supplies?

This incident also raises broader concerns. It cannot be dismissed as an isolated case, as water contamination appears to be a persistent issue in Dabolim. Rapid and unchecked construction in the area may have worsened environmental and public health risks. Given his long tenure, questions are being raised about the role and accountability of local leadership, including Mauvin Godinho, in addressing or contributing to this growing crisis.
