The recent case of police high-handedness where a Head Constable and his accomplices physically assaulted the owner of a fast food restaurant in Marcel is shocking. Goa Police is committed to serve the people of the State with compassion, responsibility and professionalism. Sadly, police violence and brutality have become a common occurrence in many parts of India including Goa with little being done to demand accountability.
Often, many police stations do not entertain complaints from people having personal grievances. Myself being one of the victims of harassment for water supply by the building owner at Marcel, had approached the Marcel Police station in Orgao with my grievances, but the senior officer there did not register my complaint favouring the builder.
Senior officers should lead by example and not set such immoral and low standards. It is horrifying to see guardians of law wobble and cross all barriers of decency in public life while citizens across the state fight their battles against crime and other evils. The major penalty for the suspended police staff member is immediate dismissal from the service without following the departmental inquiry.
